Upintheair Theatre presents
The 6th Annual Walking Fish Festival

Upintheair Theatre has been producing original, locally created plays in Vancouver since 1999. The company’s mandate is to explore new modes of creating theatre and to produce new work that is challenging and accessible in order to reach both traditional and untapped audiences. The Walking Fish Festival is an annual festival of short-form theatre Upintheair produces in Vancouver. Each year, Upintheair selects between 10 and 12 scripts by new writers from three levels: high school students, post-secondary students and emerging professionals. Directors and actors are drawn from the same strata. The scripts are then dramaturged, cast, rehearsed and presented to the public over five days at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.

So Many Doors
by Celia McBride

Whitehorse’s Sour Brides Theatre asks, “What happens when tragedy shatters your happy marriage? Do you withdraw into the bottle? Into the television? Into endless support groups?” So Many Doors by Celia McBride marks the debut of Northern theatre at Magnetic North. In the Far North, grief divides four people and isolates them more effectively than geography ever could.

What Not to Wish:
a slightly wicked musical

by Ashley Lambert Maberly

One wrong wish and the magical kingdom of Xanadu finds itself on the brink of civil war. There’s strife and struggle, fashion advice, barbarian florists, and tap-dancing samurai warriors (well, close enough). This raucous tale of revolution is set to a song-packed score including hits from great new shows like Tony-winning Spring Awakening, international sensation Billy Elliot, and even the camp classic Xanadu itself.
