TECHNICAL
STAFFING GUIDELINES

Staffing
Requirements:
The PRESENTER is required to hire the venue technician (minimum 4 hour
call) for Technical staffing services. The GICS venue Technician (or
authorized GICS designate) must be present at all times. The PRESENTER
may supply additional qualified technical personnel as needed, subject
to the approval of the GICS Production Manager. Or, if the PRESENTER
prefers, and with sufficient notice being given to the GICS production
Manager, additional Technical Personnel can be hired from the Granville
Island Cultural Society technician call list.
Rates
of Pay:
All technicians will be charged back at a rate of $26.00 per hour for
the first eight working hours of the day. After eight hours of work,
technicians will be billed back at a rate of $34.50 per hour, and after
twelve hours worked, hours will be charged back at $46.00 per hour.
Hours worked on statutory holidays will be charged back at a rate of
$34.50 per hour. Hours worked on the 7th consecutive day will be charged
at overtime rates with and additional $10 per hour penalty. Invoices
for Technical staffing services will be issued weekly and be payable
immediately upon receipt. Productions with large technical estimates
may be required to prepay a portion of technical fees at the discretion
of the GICS management
Hours
of Work:
Each shift scheduled must be no less than four hours.
Meal
Breaks:
There must be an unpaid meal break of not less than 30 minutes scheduled
no later than five hours after the start of shift. A second meal break
of one unpaid hour must be scheduled no later than five hours after
the end of the first meal break. During meal breaks, the theatre must
be cleared of all personnel.
Meal
Break Infringement:
A/ Scheduled and pre-approved: For meal break infringement that is required
due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts that have been approved at least
48 hours in advance by the GICS Production Manager, one hour at the
overtime rate will be added to the technicians time sheet
B/ Unscheduled
and unapproved: For meal break infringement that is due to unscheduled
and unplanned circumstances, one hour at the overtime rate will be added
to the technicians time sheet. In addition, the PRESENTER will be required
to reimburse the technician for a meal up to a maximum of $20 and give
the technician sufficient free time to eat the meal. Meal cost will
be added to final staffing invoice.
Time
off:
Overnight rest must be no less than ten hours free of work between each
working day. A break of more than two hours between shifts constitutes
a new shift. There must be at least one day off per work week (Monday
thru Sunday), and no more than eleven consecutive days worked.
Schedule
Changes:
Changes to the scheduled hours of work must be approved in advance by
the GICS Production Manager.
