SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT ON GRANVILLE ISLAND (SEGI) PROGRAM 2010

GENERAL INFORMATION

Our mandate is to pre-program Triangle Square and the Public Market Courtyard with high-quality, dynamic entertainment during the peak tourist season on Granville Island.

The program runs all day Saturdays, Sundays, and Holiday Mondays from May 15 to September 19, 2010.

PARTICIPATION IS VOLUNTARY; however, accepting donations and selling CDs during your performance is permitted.

Successful applicants are required to register and purchase a Granville Island Busker Pass, valid until May 2011. ($50 - $110)

Application packages must be received by 5pm March 31, 2010 to be considered for SEGI 2010.

This is an opportunity for experienced performers only.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

These attributes describe the artists and performances we are seeking

1. Showmanship - The ability to entertain:
The audience is engaged and incorporated regardless of size.
The performance is polished and has a distinct look, theme and atmosphere.

2. Proficiency - Skill and Experience:
The performance is engaging and defined throughout the beginning, middle and end.
The artist retains complete control of every aspect of their performance; safety is never a concern
The talent and stage presence of the performer is plainly evident.

3. Uniqueness - Unusual, Special, One-of-a-kind:
The performer possesses a unique quality, subtle or dramatic, that gives them an interesting edge and makes them unlike other performers.

4. Professionalism - Effectiveness, Skill, Organization and Seriousness of Manner:
The artist's equipment is in good working order and sound levels are within acceptable levels.
The artist is punctual and prepared.
The artist believes in communication and cooperation.
The artist sets a high standard and inspires fellow artists.
The artist recognises that Granville Island is a family oriented performance location.

A professional selection committee will evaluate all applications. Decisions will be based on the criteria listed above. The committee's decisions are final and not open to appeal. Performers not accepted are not permitted to re-apply until the 2011 season. Applications that do not meet minimum requirements will not be considered.

SEGI 2010 PERFORMERS: IMPORTANT TO NOTE

Live Auditions will be 20 minutes for musicians and 45 minutes for Circle Shows.

Selected applicants will become part of the Summer Entertainment on Granville Island Program.
All successful applicants must:
1) Purchase a 2010-2011 Granville Island busking license ($50 solo/$110 for groups).
2) Read and sign a letter of agreement stating the artist and program expectations.

Triangle Square and the Public Market Courtyard will be pre-programmed by the Granville Island Cultural Society based on your stated availability and the availability of spaces. There is no guarantee as to when or how many times a performer will be scheduled. Programming is arranged to have a mix of variety and musical performances throughout the day; performances of a similar nature will not be scheduled back to back unless unavoidable.

Additional traveling Circle Shows and guest performers are scheduled in Triangle Square at the discretion of the Granville Island Cultural Society and CMHC-Granville Island.

SEGI performers are encouraged to attend the daily 10:00am draw at the Picnic Pavilion to select other busking locations.
