Here are some of the questions we hear the most.
If you have questions about becoming a busker,
you may find it helpful to read through them.
1.
Where can I get a busking pass to perform on Granville Island?
Come to the Granville Island Cultural Society (GICS) office,
located at 1398 Cartwright Street on Granville Island between the hours
of 11am-1PM, Monday through Friday. If you can't make that time window,
call us at 604.683.0846 to make an appointment. For details on what
to bring and how much to pay, visit the Getting
Started page.
2.
What kind of performers are accepted to perform on Granville Island?
All kinds of performers are accepted, like jugglers, escape artists,
musicians, mimes and magicians, to name a few. The most important thing
is that your act be unique, entertaining, and of high quality, and that
you conduct yourself as a professional at all times. For more information,
visit the Rules page.
3.
Do I have to be over 18 to be a Granville Island busker?
No,
you can busk at any age. However, if you are under 18, you will need
your parent or guardian to co-sign your application when you apply for
your pass, and if you are under 16, you'll need your parent or guardian
with you when you are performing on the island.
4.
Do I have to have an amplification system in order to busk on Granville
Island?
No. In fact, amplification is prohibited at all of our indoor busking
locations.
Amplification is sometimes used by buskers at our outdoor locations,
but buskers must be able to adhere to the city bylaw volume restrictions
or they lose all amplification privileges. For
more information, visit the Rules page.
5.
Can I sell my CD while I busk?
Yes, you may sell your recordings during your performances. First
you need to register your recording at the GICS office, as well as leave
a copy with us, and then you are all set! For details, please visit
the Rules
page.
6. What
is SEGI?
SEGI is
the Summer Entertainment on Granville Island program which runs during
the high tourist season in the summer. To participate in SEGI, buskers
must audition in the Spring for special pre-programmed high-profile
performance spots on weekends in the Triangle Square and the Market
Courtyard. For more details, visit the SEGI
